Kamarajar Port Ltd performance reviewed by Indian Ministry

Kamarajar Port Ltd (KPL) was the primary focus of a weekly review meeting held by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). Chaired by Vijay Kumar, the meeting evaluated the performance of major ports, highlighting KPL’s handling of 49.08 million tonnes of cargo during the 2025-26 period.

Key statistics for KPL include the handling of 25.72 million tonnes of coal and 700,639 TEU containers. Together with the Chennai Port Authority, KPL contributed approximately 24% of total container handling across all major ports. Additionally, the Ennore port facility saw an 18.86% increase in vehicle handling compared to the previous fiscal year, managing 191,825 vehicles.

A significant infrastructure milestone was noted as KPL completed the fourth phase of capital dredging at a cost of Rs 440 crore. This project achieved an 18-metre draft, enabling the port to accommodate Cape-size vessels. The ministry continues to implement digital initiatives, such as e-Samudra and Sagar Setu, to modernize maritime governance and improve operational efficiency.
