Kamariny Stadium undergoes major transformation in Iten

Construction has resumed at Kamariny Stadium in Iten, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, following nearly a decade of abandonment and neglect. The project, overseen by Sports Kenya, aims to transform the facility into a modern athletics and sporting hub.

The upgraded stadium is expected to accommodate between 10,000 and 15,000 spectators. Key features of the development include an eight-lane tartan athletics track, a standard football pitch, changing rooms, and a VIP pavilion. Additionally, work is underway to improve access roads and street lighting in the area.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo stated that a subsequent phase of the project will include specialized accommodation for athletes. This expansion is intended to strengthen Iten’s status as a global center for high-altitude training, providing local athletes with professional facilities for speed training and competition preparation while boosting regional economic opportunities for hotels and training camps.
