KAMAZ unveils LNG‑powered K5 flagship truck for long‑haul transport
Russian commercial‑vehicle manufacturer KAMAZ has begun large‑scale production of its flagship K5 generation tractor unit, the KAMAZ‑54901 SPG. The model runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is equipped with two cryogenic fuel tanks holding a total of 1,060 litres, giving it a claimed range of up to 1,600 km on a single fill.
The 460 hp KAMAZ‑54901 SPG uses a KAMAZ R6 pneumatic engine paired with a 12‑speed automatic gearbox. KAMAZ says the LNG system can cut fuel costs by as much as 60 % compared with conventional diesel trucks, while eliminating the need for complex emissions‑control equipment such as AdBlue. The company positions the truck as a cost‑effective solution for long‑distance freight operators seeking lower operating expenses and reduced environmental impact.
