Kameshwar Mahadev Temple highlighted as significant spiritual site in Uttarakhand

The Kameshwar Mahadev Temple, located on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal district, is a significant ancient site in Uttarakhand. According to the Skanda Purana, the temple is one of the five important Maheshwar Peeths in the Himalayan region.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the temple's importance on social media, describing it as a major center for devotion and worship. Religious tradition holds that Lord Rama performed penance here to seek atonement after the killing of Ravana. The temple is known for its self-manifested Shiva Lingam and various deities including Ganga, Saraswati, and Annapurna.

A specific ritual is performed during Baikuntha Chaturdashi, where devotees participate in overnight prayers to seek blessings.
