Kamienna River reservoir project faces environmental opposition
Environmentalists are protesting a planned 120 million PLN investment by Wody Polskie to construct the Bzin retention reservoir on the Kamienna River. While Wody Polskie officials state the project is essential for flood protection, water retention, and climate change resilience, local conservation groups argue the plan will damage the ecosystem.
Representatives from the 'Nasz Bóbr' Association and the 'Ostoja' Naturalists Association claim the project threatens local fauna, including beaver families and wolf migration routes. They specifically noted that existing wetlands in the region may retain six times more water than the proposed reservoir. Critics also expressed concerns that the shallow reservoir could lead to significant water loss and that the project may serve recreational purposes under the guise of flood prevention.
