Kamila Andini film Empat Musim Pertiwi tackles sexual violence

The film ‘Empat Musim Pertiwi’, directed by Kamila Andini and produced by Forka Films, has officially released in Indonesian cinemas following an eight-year development process. The project, which began in 2017, addresses sensitive social issues including sexual violence, the struggles of survivors, and legal protections for women.

Produced by Ifa Isfansyah, the film underwent extensive research and production preparation between 2022 and 2023 to ensure a deep exploration of its subject matter. The story follows Pertiwi, a woman who returns to her village after 20 years and a prison sentence, only to face social rejection and the consequences of her past. The film stars Putri Marino in the lead role and is intended to serve as a medium for public discussion regarding sexual violence and survivor experiences. The film is set to represent Indonesia at the 2027 Oscars.
