Kamila Andini’s new film ‘Empat Musim Pertiwi’ heads to international festivals

Director Kamila Andini is preparing to showcase her new film, ‘Empat Musim Pertiwi’ (Four Seasons in Java), at prestigious international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Busan, and Tokyo. Produced by Ifa Isfansyah and Forka Films, the project was inspired by the visual landscapes of Mount Bromo.

The film follows the journey of a woman named Pertiwi who returns home after a 20-year disappearance, sparking intense emotional conflict within her community. Senior actress Christine Hakim stars as Mak Ira, a blunt and outspoken former prostitute living on the slopes of Mount Bromo. Hakim noted that the role explores social realities and the hypocrisy of those who speak of morality while acting immorally.

Cast members Arya Saloka and Putri Marino underwent intensive two-month workshops involving skills such as horseback riding, sign language, and combat training to prepare for their roles. The film aims to explore various forms of injustice through the different phases of a woman's life.
