Kamin Science Center launches 'Science of Speed' exhibit in Pittsburgh

The Kamin Science Center in Pittsburgh opened its new permanent exhibit, “Science of Speed – Powered by Lenovo,” on August 1. The 21,000‑square‑foot attraction features an 800‑foot indoor electric go‑kart track that climbs three levels and reaches speeds of up to 40 mph, as well as a WAVE Italy Formula One motion simulator – the only one of its kind in the region. Visitors can also explore an exploded Audi V10 engine, view a racing suit with airbags, and try racing bikes and simulators.

Mayor Corey O’Connor was among the first to ride the go‑karts, saying he felt “like Mario Andretti.” Director Jason Brown said the exhibit is designed to teach how racing innovations translate into everyday technology. Kart races cost $14 per run, the F1 simulator $8, and the evening‑only 18‑plus sessions run from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. with a bar serving food and drinks.
