Kamloops City Opens Fall Recreation Registrations and Advocates Community Court
Registration for the City of Kamloops' fall recreation programs begins at 6:30 a.m. on Aug 11, with online and in‑person options at the Tournament Capital Centre, Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre, and the Kamloops Museum and Archives. The guide, available online and in print from Aug 5, lists aquatics, sports, fitness, arts and cultural activities for all ages running through December, and introduces two new eight‑week rehabilitative exercise classes – Lower Body Foundations and Joint Strength and Upper Body Foundations and Joint Strength. Swim lesson schedules are already posted online.
At the same time, Kamloops' safety and security committee voted to request a provincial community court, sending a letter to the British Columbia Ministry of Justice. The push follows early success of the Kamloops Interagency Supports Table, launched in November, which has recorded about 40 referrals and coordinated support services for at‑risk individuals within 24‑48 hours. Council hopes a dedicated community court will handle bail, sentencing and alternative measures, reducing crime and improving public safety.
