Kamloops men sentenced for separate assault and sexual assault crimes

Two separate criminal sentencing cases concluded in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Samuel Robert Theodore Moller, 39, was sentenced in provincial court to time served after pleading guilty to three counts of assault and one count of theft under $5,000. The offences occurred over a six-week period this spring and involved a security guard at an Independent Grocer, a theft from a 7-Eleven, and an assault on a mall security guard at Dollar Tree. Moller also pointed a pocket knife at a community services officer during a suspected overdose incident. His sentence includes 12 months of probation, weapons prohibition, and no-contact conditions.

In B.C. Supreme Court, David Young, 23, was sentenced to 3.5 years in federal prison for sexual assault and assault by choking. The charges stemmed from encounters with two former partners in 2022, during which Young ignored withdrawals of consent and physically choked one victim. Young, who is a private in the Canadian Armed Forces, expressed remorse in court, though his military status is now uncertain due to the convictions.
