Kampala and Yaba launch anti‑litter taskforces to curb waste and flooding

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) announced the deployment of undercover “ambience ambassadors” to identify and apprehend littering offenders as part of a mandatory monthly National Cleaning Day. KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki said the initiative revealed the scale of accumulated garbage and urged residents, businesses and institutions to maintain proper waste disposal practices beyond the clean‑up exercises.

In Nigeria, the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) established a Refuse Vanguard Taskforce to enforce environmental sanitation regulations. Chairman Dr Bayo Adefuye said the taskforce will monitor the environment, arrest offenders and prosecute violations in Customary Court, while also desilting drains to reduce flooding risk.
