Kampala court orders deportation of three Kenyans

A Kampala court has ordered the deportation of three Kenyan nationals following their conviction for illegal entry and unlawful presence in Uganda. The individuals, identified as police constable Bett Kiplangat Collins, businessman Pius Muiru Mbugua, and Samuel Karanja Gathoni, pleaded guilty to immigration offences at the City Hall Magistrate’s court.

The court, presided over by senior principal grade one magistrate Nicholas Aisu, sentenced the trio to a caution and mandated their return to Kenya. The deportation is intended to allow them to face investigations and potential prosecution regarding the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, an incident that occurred on July 29, 2026.

The accused reportedly entered Uganda through the Busia border in August and resided in Kyanja Heights Apartments without valid immigration documentation. State Attorney Mercy Yamangusho requested a firm sentence to deter similar illegal entries into the country.
