Kampala police arrest five suspects in motorcycle theft ring
Police in Kampala have arrested five suspects and impounded 12 motorcycles following an intelligence-led operation targeting a theft and resale network. The investigation began after a motorcycle was reported stolen at Nabweru Police Station.
Investigators traced the stolen vehicle to the Busabala area, leading to the arrest of Mugisha Ivan, 28, and Kabanda David, 25. The suspects allegedly concealed the motorcycle to allow time for tracking devices to be removed. They subsequently led detectives to Ndeeba, where police arrested three more individuals and recovered 12 motorcycles.
Authorities state the gang primarily targets relatively new motorcycles. The stolen vehicles were reportedly taken to Ndeeba to have tracking devices removed before being resold for approximately Shs1.7 million each. Some motorcycles were also allegedly dismantled for spare parts or modified to appear older before being resold. The suspects are also being investigated for potential links to thefts reported in Old Kampala, Nateete, Jinja Road, and Nabweru.
