Indonesia legal updates: corruption probes and deforestation suspects

Indonesia is seeing several distinct legal and regulatory developments. In Bekasi Regency, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating allegations of project procurement manipulation. Investigators have questioned 26 witnesses regarding the potential conditioning of project winners and the payment of fees to certain parties. The probe also involves the assets of an active police officer, Ipda Yayat Sudrajat.

In Riau, the Riau Regional Police have named a member of the Kampar Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), identified by the initial F, as a suspect in an illegal deforestation case. The suspect is accused of controlling 60 hectares of forest for use as an oil palm plantation. This investigation follows a previous operation in June 2025 involving four other individuals.

Meanwhile, in East Java, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has seized over 1,000 tons of shrimp. This action has drawn criticism from members of the House of Representatives (DPR), specifically Johan Rosihan of the PKS faction, who has called for greater transparency regarding the legal basis and procedures used for the seizure to avoid economic uncertainty for local businesses and workers.
