Kamphaeng Phet village leader resigns after fatal drunk-driving crash

A village headman in Thailand’s Kamphaeng Phet province has been forced to resign following a fatal drunk-driving accident that killed two teenagers. The driver, identified as 45-year-old Supat Sarapin, reportedly collided with another pickup truck before striking a motorcycle carrying a 14-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man.

The 14-year-old died at the scene, while the 19-year-old later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The victims were reportedly traveling to a school trip when the collision occurred.

Following public outcry and concerns from the victims' families regarding the suspect's political influence, provincial officials took swift action. Governor Chatip Rujanaseranee ordered a severe disciplinary investigation, and District Chief Sanae Chaimongkol mandated Sarapin’s immediate resignation. The driver remains in custody facing legal charges.
