Kampinos National Park opens accessible Moose Trail

Kampinos National Park has opened a new 3.5-kilometer educational trail named ‘Szlakiem Łosia’ (Moose Trail) in Izabelin. The project, which connects Polana Jakubów to the Forest Botanical Garden, was funded by a 340,000 euro (approximately 1.5 million PLN) grant from the VKR Group Employee Foundation, supported by companies including VELUX and Altaterra.

The trail is designed to improve accessibility for people with disabilities, including wheelchair users and the visually impaired. Key features include hardened paths, sensory elements, Braille educational signs, and QR codes providing audio descriptions of local flora and fauna. The opening coincided with the 75th anniversary of the reintroduction of moose to the Kampinos Forest.

While the project marks a significant step toward universal design within the park, some sections remain challenging. Certain forest paths still feature difficult terrain, and some boardwalks currently lack handrails. Park authorities stated they are continuing to work with experts and NGOs to balance nature conservation with the goal of making the park accessible to everyone.
