Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih stabilizes fish prices in Indonesia
The implementation of the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (KNMP) program is providing economic stability and modernization for fishing communities in Indonesia. In Cikiruhwetan, Pandeglang, the facility helps stabilize fish prices by providing essential infrastructure such as ice factories to maintain catch freshness.
In Karangduwur, Kebumen, Central Java, the KNMP is helping fishermen manage periods of oversupply. When catches are abundant, market prices typically drop; however, the availability of cold storage, Air Blast Freezers (ABF), and slurry ice technology allows fishermen to preserve the quality of their catch rather than facing losses. The use of saltwater-based slurry ice has been noted by local fishermen as being more effective for maintaining fish quality than traditional ice blocks.
