Kananga to begin construction of $160 million water plant

Construction of a new potable water production plant on the Lulua River is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 5, in Kananga, the capital of Kasaï Central. The project, announced by the public utility REGIDESO, represents an investment of approximately $160 million.

Supported by the World Bank through programs such as AGREE and PASEA, the project will be executed by Chinese companies. The initiative aims to connect over 58,000 households to the water supply, install public standpipes in various neighborhoods, and build reservoirs across several communes. The ultimate goal is to provide 24-hour access to clean water in a region where current service levels are reportedly below 10% of the population.
