Kanazawa University hosts Japan-Türkiye academic symposium
Kanazawa University’s Center for International Japanese Studies and the Graduate School of Human and Social Sciences held an interdisciplinary symposium titled ‘Community, Mobility, and Cultural Representation: Interdisciplinary Perspectives from Japan and Türkiye.’ The event focused on exploring new possibilities in Japanese and regional studies through the lenses of linguistics, anthropology, history, social movements, and comparative mythology.
The symposium featured several sessions, including graduate student presentations on topics such as marriage in Japanese local communities, refugee reception in Poland, and the representation of ‘okami’ in the Hokuriku region. Other sessions addressed mobility and education in UNESCO-designated areas in Türkiye, the history of queer movements in Türkiye, and a comparative study of deities, snakes, marriage, and female representations in Japanese and Turkish mythology.
The event aimed to foster academic exchange between Japanese and Turkish researchers, promoting future educational and research cooperation through cross-border and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
