Kandang Village holds light festival for Indonesian Independence Day
Residents of Kandang Village in the Comal District of Pemalang, Central Java, held the fourth annual Gebyar Lampu Merah Putih festival to celebrate the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
Spanning approximately three kilometers of village roads, the festival features various thematic light decorations created by the community, including replicas of the Suramadu Bridge, the National Monument (Monas), the Garuda symbol, and various animals. The event, which runs through August 2026, serves as both a community celebration and an economic driver.
Acting Regent of Pemalang, Nurkholes, opened the festival and praised the community's cooperation and creativity. The festivities have attracted dozens of micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM), many of whom are local residents selling food and beverages, providing a positive impact on the local economy.
