Kandıra rivers become popular destinations for canoeing

The Sarısu and Seyrek rivers in the Kandıra district of Kocaeli have become popular destinations for canoeing. The calm waters, lush forests, and reed beds provide a scenic route for enthusiasts to explore nature and observe local wildlife, such as otters, ducks, and turtles.

Selçuk Cömert, President of the Kandrow Sports Club, stated that the initiative aims to extend the local tourism season from a few months of sea tourism to a 7-8 month period covering April through mid-November. Since starting the tours in April, approximately 1,500 participants from cities including Istanbul, Sakarya, Eskişehir, and Ankara have visited the area.

Canoeing has also allowed visitors to reach untouched bays that are inaccessible by land. The growing interest in adventure tourism is providing a boost to local businesses and diversifying the region's tourism appeal beyond traditional sea-based activities.
