Kandula Durgesh addresses drought and cultural revival in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh has addressed several regional issues regarding drought management, cultural preservation, and agricultural support.

Due to El Nino-induced drought conditions and rainfall reaching only 42% of normal levels, Durgesh has directed officials to prioritize drinking water over irrigation. He urged the agriculture and irrigation departments to coordinate on water availability and advised farmers to consider alternative commercial or inter-crops that require less water than paddy. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of e-crop registration and enrollment in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to ensure access to insurance during natural calamities.

Regarding the economy and culture, Durgesh stated the government is committed to reviving Telugu theatre, including mythological and folk art forms. He announced plans to restore the Special Artists Pension, which had been discontinued. On agriculture, he noted that the state has ensured a record tobacco price of over Rs 300 and is providing interest-free loans and price-difference compensation to protect farmers from international market fluctuations.
