Kandy Esala Perahera concludes with final Randoli Perahera

The Kandy Esala Perahera reached its grand finale with the final Randoli Perahera procession in the hill capital of Kandy. The event, which honors the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, featured magnificently adorned elephants, traditional Kandyan dancers, drummers, and torch bearers.

The President of Sri Lanka attended the ceremony to witness the culmination of the religious pageant, which is organized annually by the Sri Dalada Maligawa. The festival began on August 13 with the Kap planting ceremony and included several stages of processions, including the Kumbal Perahera and the five-night Randoli Perahera.

To manage the massive crowds of devotees and tourists, local police implemented special traffic plans and diversions throughout Kandy. The festival concludes with the traditional Diya Kepeema, or water-cutting ceremony, and a daytime procession.
