Kane Parsons' Backrooms film explores psychological horror

The film 'Backrooms,' directed by Kane Parsons, explores psychological entrapment through the lens of a surreal, infinite labyrinth of empty offices. Set in 1990s California, the story follows Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a furniture store owner struggling with personal failures, who discovers a hidden passage behind his store leading to a logic-defying network of rooms.

As Clark and his therapist, Dr. Mary Kline (Renate Reinsve), become entangled in this space, the labyrinth serves as a metaphor for cognitive patterns and the tendency to repeat failed behaviors when facing the unknown. The project originated from a 2019 'creepypasta' image on 4chan, which Parsons initially developed into a viral YouTube short film.

Following the success of his digital series, Parsons has partnered with A24, Chernin Entertainment, 21 Laps Entertainment, and Atomic Monster to bring the 'Backrooms' phenomenon to the cinema.
