Kane Parsons' Backrooms film shuns AI and eyes sequel

The horror film Backrooms, directed by Kane Parsons and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, follows a divorced architect who discovers an endless, fluorescent‑lit maze of office rooms behind a basement wall. Reviewers highlighted the film’s extensive set design, lighting by cinematographer Jeremy Cox, and the unsettling visual style of its monsters.

Parsons also addressed production concerns, confirming via his Discord account that A24 will not use Google’s artificial‑intelligence tools in any future Backrooms projects. The clarification followed a dispute in which A24 claimed rights to fan‑made videos and games related to the franchise, prompting the studio to reverse its stance. Parsons hinted that a sequel is in development and mentioned the possibility of adapting the game Portal for his next production.
