Kane Parsons Directs A24’s ‘Backrooms’ as Rumor Denied by Mark Duplass
Nineteen‑year‑old filmmaker Kane Parsons is confirmed as the director of A24’s horror feature “Backrooms.” Social‑media speculation claimed the movie was “ghost‑directed” by veteran producer Osgood Perkins, but actors on set refuted the rumor.
Mark Duplass, who stars in the film, posted an Instagram video stating he was present on set and saw Parsons “100 % in control,” even more so than many directors three times his age. Duplass added that Parsons, while mentored by James Wan and Perkins, did not need additional oversight.
The film is slated for a May 29 theatrical release and box‑office projections are in the $40‑$50 million domestic range, with expectations of a $50 million‑plus opening weekend.
