Kane Parsons plans Portal film adaptation after Backrooms box‑office hit

Twenty‑year‑old director Kane Parsons rose from YouTube creator to Hollywood breakout with his horror film Backrooms, which opened at No. 1 in North America and earned over $118 million worldwide. The success made him the youngest filmmaker to debut a movie at the top of the U.S. box office.

Parsons has said he would love to adapt Valve’s science‑fiction game Portal for the screen, citing its surreal labs and iconic AI antagonist GLaDOS as a natural fit for his style. He has already signed a deal with A24 to produce a sequel to Backrooms and is reportedly collaborating on an undisclosed project, keeping the Portal adaptation as a top personal ambition.
