Kane Parsons to direct ‘Backrooms 2’ for A24

Director Kane Parsons has reportedly signed to direct ‘Backrooms 2’ for A24. This follows the massive commercial success of the first film, which grossed nearly $400 million worldwide on a $10 million budget, making it one of the most successful titles in A24 history.

Parsons, who originally created the viral YouTube series that inspired the film, will prioritize this sequel over other projects, including an original film previously in development with Osgood Perkins. While an official announcement from A24 is expected soon, the move ensures continuity of vision for the franchise, as Parsons developed the specific visual language of the ‘Backrooms’ mythos.

The first installment featured Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve and was produced with involvement from James Wan and Shawn Levy. The sequel is expected to further explore the lore of the unsettling, infinite yellow corridors and the entities within them.
