Kane Parsons to helm multiple Backrooms sequels after $81 M opening

Backrooms, a low‑budget $10 million horror film directed by Kane Parsons for A24, opened with a record $81 million domestic debut, the studio’s biggest ever, and has earned more than $140 million worldwide. Parsons said he has a contract for sequels and envisions the first movie as the start of a multi‑film series, possibly an anthology, while continuing to produce YouTube content he enjoys. He noted the film received a B‑CinemaScore, moderate Rotten Tomatoes user and critic scores, and experienced a 68 % box‑office decline in its second weekend.
