Kang Myung-soo inaugurated as Jeonnam-Gwangju Industrial Economy Vice Mayor

Kang Myung-soo has officially taken office as the first Industrial Economy Vice Mayor of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. During his inauguration ceremony on the 26th, Kang outlined a vision for an “industrial transformation” aimed at supporting corporate growth and linking industrial success to high-quality jobs and improved citizen livelihoods.

Kang presented three core principles for industrial and economic policy: seeking effective solutions within industrial sites and the livelihood economy, creating an optimal ecosystem for corporate investment and growth, and establishing a virtuous cycle that connects industrial expansion to job creation. He emphasized the opportunity to fuse the region's existing manufacturing foundations—such as energy, steel, petrochemicals, aerospace, and shipbuilding—with advanced infrastructures like AI, semiconductors, and mobility.

To attract investment, Kang pledged to integrate land, power, and customized infrastructure to create a highly competitive environment for companies. Mayor Min Hyung-bae noted that the eastern region plays a critical role in South Korea's industrial growth through its petrochemical, steel, and port industries, urging the integration of AI and new technologies like secondary batteries to lead future industrial shifts.
