Kang Sun-woo faces 4-year prison request in bribery trial
Prosecutors have requested a four-year prison sentence and a 100 million won fine for former lawmaker Kang Sun-woo in a case involving alleged nomination bribery. During a concluding hearing at the Seoul Central District Court, Kang testified that police officials pressured her to admit to receiving 100 million won to maintain her dignity as a lawmaker, an allegation the police have denied.
Kang and former Seoul City Councilor Kim Kyung are accused of violating the Political Funds Act by exchanging 100 million won in January 2022. Additionally, prosecutors have newly indicted Kang for allegedly receiving approximately 130 million won in split donations through various names after returning the initial 100 million won. Sentencing is scheduled for next month.
