Kangnam’s Pokémon card collection valued at 200 million KRW

In a recent video on the YouTube channel ‘Dongne Chingu Kangnami’, former speed skater Lee Sang-hwa performed a prank on her husband, entertainer Kangnam, by pretending to sell his extensive Pokémon card collection. Upon professional appraisal, the collection was estimated to have a total market value of approximately 200 million KRW.

Individual high-value items were identified, including several Pikachu cards valued between 10 million and 20 million KRW. The video highlights the growing trend of Pokémon cards as significant investment assets. Market data indicates that rare Pokémon cards have seen substantial growth, with some indices showing returns over 3,800% since 2004, significantly outperforming the S&P 500 over the same period.

While the sale was part of a prank to discourage Kangnam from further collecting, the event underscored the rising global market for authenticated trading cards, which has seen individual cards sell for millions of dollars at major auction platforms.
