Kangwon Land nominates Kim Do-gyun as candidate for next CEO

Kangwon Land has nominated Kim Do-gyun, former commander of the Army Capital Defense Command, as the candidate for its next CEO. The board of directors approved the nomination, which will be presented at the 34th extraordinary general shareholders' meeting on August 26.

Kim, who has extensive experience in military, government, and political sectors, was selected for his ability to manage large organizations and navigate complex regulatory environments. The board believes his understanding of the political and economic landscape in the Gangwon region will be vital for driving tourism and addressing legal challenges.

The new leadership faces the task of diversifying revenue streams. While the casino segment remains the primary profit driver, accounting for 89% of revenue last year, the company aims to reduce this dependency by expanding its resort, wellness, and leisure business sectors. Additionally, the company must continue its role in supporting the economic revitalization of abandoned mine areas, as its legal basis for operating domestic casinos is tied to regional development support.

Other nominations include Kwon Soon-hyung and Yoo Jeong-bae for vice president positions, and Jang Gyeong-yeol for standing auditor. The appointment of the CEO requires a recommendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy and final approval by the President.
