Kankan Central Prison: Inmate revolt sparks gunfire
Gunshots fired near the Kankan Central Prison in Guinea on September 20 caused widespread panic among local residents. Following the incident, local prosecutors addressed public speculation regarding the cause of the gunfire.
According to prosecutor Ibrahima 1 Cas-marrant, the shots were fired after a group of inmates revolted against the transfer of a high-profile prisoner. The prosecutor stated that the General Prosecutor of the Court of Appeal had ordered the transfer of the individual, who was deemed a security risk, but the inmate's cellmates opposed the decision when the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) arrived to execute the order.
