Kankyo Kanri Center to lead Japan tourism waste reduction project
Kankyo Kanri Center has been commissioned by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment to lead a model project aimed at addressing littering and etiquette issues caused by increasing inbound tourism. In collaboration with Club Tourism, the initiative seeks to create a sustainable cycle where environmental conservation and tourism promotion support one another.
The project focuses on three specific regions in Japan to develop models for reducing waste and transforming environmental actions into engaging tourism experiences:
• In Inawashiro, Fukushima, the Aizu Bandai Long Trail Promotion Council will work on building a sustainable regional conservation cycle within the Bandai-Asahi National Park.
• In Miyajima, Hiroshima, BIPROGY Inc. will implement a circular tourism model where environmentally conscious behaviors are designed as part of the tourist experience.
• On Kikaijima, Kagoshima, simasima LLC will pursue a regenerative geo-island project to use local natural and cultural resources to contribute to environmental restoration.
Kankyo Kanri Center will manage planning, behavioral change mechanisms, and effectiveness verification, while Club Tourism will handle the design of tourism content, multilingual support, and visitor attraction.
