Kano Assembly suspends three government chairmen for three months

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the chairmen of Bebeji, Rogo and Bagwai local government areas for three months. The action follows a committee report that alleged financial misappropriation, abuse of office, and multiple procurement irregularities in each council. Residents had submitted petitions accusing the three officials of diverting development funds, improper contract awards and unlawful land sales. The Assembly cited Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution to justify the oversight measure and ordered the vice‑chairpersons of the three LGAs to take over council affairs while investigations continue. The suspension was announced publicly by Special Adviser Ibrahim Adam on Facebook and confirmed in a statement from the Assembly’s press secretary, Kamaluddeen Shawai. The committee report was presented by its chairman, Aliyu Muhammad, with Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini also detailing the findings during the plenary session.
