Kano Free Trade Zone generates ₦36bn in revenue and 5,000 jobs

The Kano Free Trade Zone has generated over ₦36 billion in customs revenue and created between 3,000 and 5,000 direct jobs between January and August 2026. According to Director Solomon Matthew, the 262,000-hectare zone hosts enterprises focused on manufacturing, processing, and trading. Of the 113 enterprises registered since its establishment, 87 are currently operational.

Deputy Director Richard Bassey noted that the ₦36 billion revenue marks a significant increase from the ₦24 billion recorded throughout 2025. This growth is attributed to enhanced collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, which implemented new inventory procedures to ensure duties are paid on raw materials used in production. The Nigeria Customs Service reported that revenue from the zone has reached ₦40 billion since January, monitored via a live dashboard.

Beyond revenue and employment, the zone facilitates technology transfer through collaboration between Nigerian workers and expatriates. It also attracts foreign direct investment and stimulates local economic activity by supporting small businesses through backward linkages.
