Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf addresses security and development

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has highlighted the complexities of managing the region, describing Kano as a ‘mini-Nigeria’ due to its large, cosmopolitan population and status as one of the world’s most populous cities.

To address security challenges, the state government has implemented both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies. These include training approximately 2,000 individuals for the Neighbourhood Watch program across 44 local government areas, establishing an Anti-Phone Snatching Corps, and launching the Safe Corridor program. The Safe Corridor initiative, which has received over N500 million in funding, aims to reintegrate youths previously involved in political violence into peaceful activities.

On the developmental front, the administration has focused on large-scale infrastructure and social investments. This includes over one thousand completed or ongoing projects, with a specific emphasis on revitalizing the education sector by replacing dilapidated school structures to support long-term economic growth.
