Kano man regains sight after 27 years of blindness

Abdullahi Abubakar, a 30-year-old man from Kano State, has regained his sight after 27 years of blindness. Abubakar lost his vision at the age of three due to glaucoma and optic neuritis.

After years of unsuccessful treatments at various hospitals, Abubakar had previously abandoned medical searches for a cure. His vision was restored following surgery at the Makkah Specialists Eye Hospital in Kano. Seven weeks post-operation, he is able to recognize faces and navigate familiar environments independently.

During his period of blindness, Abubakar engaged in various trades, including selling water and animals, and occasionally resorted to begging. He noted that the recovery has allowed him to see his wife and daughter for the first time.
