Kano police arrest NDC politician over alleged firearm display
The Kano State Police Command has arrested and invited Aminu Abdullahi Warkal, a candidate for the state house of assembly representing the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), for questioning. The action follows the circulation of a viral video showing Warkal allegedly displaying a suspected pump-action rifle and firing shots into the air during a political gathering in the Janbulo area of Gwale Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa stated that the incident was detected during a routine cyber patrol. Authorities noted that the unlawful display of a firearm violates the Firearms Act and has the potential to incite fear, intimidate the public, and breach peace and security.
Following directives from Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Warkal was summoned to the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, where he is currently being interrogated by detectives at the State Intelligence Department (SID). The police have warned that lawlessness or the display of weapons will not be tolerated, regardless of an individual's status.
