Kano police arrest two suspects in killing of social media commentator

Police in Kano have arrested two suspects following the killing of Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, a prominent social media commentator and former journalist. Dan Shagamu was reportedly attacked by hoodlums who forcibly entered his residence in the Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Government Area on Monday night.

The victim was found with severe injuries, including wounds to his head and throat. His family and human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have condemned the brutal attack. Dan Shagamu was known for his viral videos in Hausa, where he provided critical commentary on political, religious, and social issues.

While some family members noted that the deceased had previously reported receiving death threats from neighbors, preliminary police findings suggest the motive may be linked to local disputes or envy rather than his political commentary. The Kano State Police Command is continuing its investigation to identify any other accomplices involved in the incident.
