Kano State allocates N300 million to mass wedding program
The Kano State government approved the release of ₦300 million to fund the Hisbah Board’s mass‑wedding scheme, which will involve about 1,500 couples. Each bride will receive ₦200,000 as dowry and capital, paid directly into a newly opened bank account, while each groom will be given 10 yards of fabric, a cap, a bag of rice and a jerry‑can of cooking oil. The programme also provides household furniture and other essentials for the newly married couples.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf addressed the prospective couples during an orientation organised by the Hisbah Board, urging them to build their marriages on trust, patience, mutual respect and Islamic values. Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, chairman of the Kano State Hisbah Board, reiterated the importance of kindness, responsibility and reconciliation, and announced a grand reception at the Government House where Islamic scholars will offer prayers for the couples.
