Kano State Chief Judge orders release of seven inmates

Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, the Chief Judge of Kano State, has ordered the immediate release of seven inmates on medical grounds following a review of 82 awaiting-trial cases. The judicial review took place during a jail delivery exercise at the Kurmawa and Goron Dutse Custodial Centres.

The initiative aimed to promote the speedy dispensation of justice and protect the rights of individuals in custody, particularly those who had spent several years detained without formal charges. The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, stated that the exercise underscores the judiciary's commitment to the rule of law and ensuring detainees are not held longer than legally permitted.

Ahmed Lakpene, the Controller of Corrections for the Kano State Command, encouraged the released individuals to use their freedom to lead law-abiding lives and avoid future legal conflicts.
