Kano State NSCDC launches telecom infrastructure safety campaign

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has begun a statewide public‑awareness drive to promote safe use of telecommunications infrastructure during the rainy season. Commandant Mohammed Agalama warned residents not to seek shelter under telecom masts or tamper with cables, describing such actions as "economic sabotage" that endanger public safety.

The campaign will mobilise traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, youth groups, schools and religious institutions to educate the public on protecting masts, underground cables and power installations, especially amid heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds. The NSCDC said anyone caught vandalising or interfering with telecom facilities will be arrested and prosecuted, and urged citizens to report damaged or suspicious installations to the nearest NSCDC office.

The effort is coordinated by the NSCDC’s Department of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Protection, headed by DCC Victor Bala Muhd, and aims to ensure uninterrupted telecom services that support communication, security operations, emergency response and economic activities across Kano State.
