Kano State orders retired civil servants to vacate offices within 48 hours
The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for retired civil servants to vacate government offices. The directive aims to address the continued occupation of official positions and the unauthorized collection of salaries by personnel who have already reached their statutory retirement age or completed required years of service.
Acting Executive Chairman Hafsat Ada’u-Kutama stated that the practice constitutes a violation of the Kano State Civil Service Rules and represents economic sabotage. The commission warned that investigations will be launched against any retired individuals receiving salaries and the officials who facilitate such payments. To assist in enforcement, a confidential whistleblower channel has been established for civil servants to report non-compliant officers.
This enforcement follows Circular No. 10/2026, issued by the Office of the Head of Civil Service. Under this order, Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Administration are required to submit lists of retired officers who remain in their posts by October 10, 2026. The government has also warned that any official found aiding retired staff in staying on duty will face disciplinary action.
