Kano State rainstorm in Bichi kills up to eight, prompts relief plea
A severe rainstorm struck Bichi Local Government Area in Kano State on 22 July 2026, destroying houses and property worth millions of naira. The Kano State Emergency Management Agency confirmed five fatalities, while the Kano State House of Assembly, citing a motion moved by representative Lawan Shehu, reported eight deaths.
The assembly urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to provide emergency relief, noting that the legislator had already distributed N2 million to each bereaved family and N10 million to those who lost both relatives and property. Executive Secretary Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi said the agency’s damage report has been submitted to the state government for immediate assistance. The assembly also called for the establishment of two modern skills‑acquisition centres in Ungogo LGA.
Both officials said relief materials would be distributed as soon as they become available.
