Kano State restores Goron Dutse water facility after 30 years
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced the revival of the Goron Dutse water facility, which had been inactive for approximately 30 years. The restoration is expected to provide an additional 40 million litres of potable water to the Kano metropolis.
The project is part of a broader infrastructure intervention by the state government, which includes the inspection and rehabilitation of dams, treatment plants, and pumping stations. To support these efforts, the administration has awarded an ₦11 billion contract for works aimed at improving water production, treatment, and distribution across Kano State.
As part of the technical integration, the 15.6-kilometre pipeline connecting the Challawa Water Works to the Goron Dutse reservoirs has been tested and confirmed to be in good condition. Once fully operational, treated water will be conveyed from Challawa through this pipeline to the three reservoirs at Goron Dutse for storage and subsequent distribution to various communities.
