Kano State shuts nine private schools over registration breaches
The Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KSPVIB) has ordered the temporary closure of nine private schools for failing to comply with registration revalidation and recertification requirements. The affected institutions include Zayyad Academy, Success International Schools, Sunshine International School, Perfect Schools, Al-Fa’iq International College, Mainasara International School, Shula Academy, Darul Mu’uminat Comprehensive School, and Hanan International School.
Executive Secretary Alhaji Baba Abubakar Umar announced that the schools would remain closed for seven days. He noted that the board had identified 111 schools that allegedly bypassed regulatory procedures. The revalidation exercise is intended to strengthen data collection and ensure compliance with educational standards across the state.
Umar also issued warnings to school proprietors regarding other regulatory breaches, such as increasing fees without approval, requiring parents to purchase uniforms and books exclusively from the school, and expelling students without parental notification. He urged all private institutions to renew their operating licenses for the upcoming academic session.
