Kano youths torch Gwarzo council building amid rising bandit attacks

A protest in Gwarzo, Kano State turned violent on Sunday as hundreds of youths, initially demonstrating peacefully against recurrent bandit attacks, forced entry into the local government secretariat and set part of the building on fire, producing thick smoke and panic among residents.

Residents said fear and frustration had been building due to frequent attacks and what they described as an inadequate security response. One resident said, “People are exhausted and scared. The attacks keep happening, and nothing seems to change.” Another added, “Violence won’t solve the problem. What we need is urgent action and dialogue.” Security operatives were deployed, authorities launched an investigation, and calls were made for dialogue and stronger security measures.
