Kanpur Home Guard recruitment medical exam faces extortion allegations
A medical examination scandal has emerged during the Uttar Pradesh Home Guard recruitment process at the Kanpur Police Line. Candidates have accused a three-member medical panel of attempting to extort money by threatening to declare them unfit due to minor physical issues, such as nasal irregularities or vision problems.
According to allegations, candidates were asked to pay between Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000 to be declared medically fit. Some candidates reported being given slips with mobile numbers to facilitate payments via UPI or cash. The situation escalated into a confrontation when candidates identified a man in a doctor’s car as a middleman, leading to a physical altercation before police intervened.
Authorities have detained two doctors and a driver for questioning following reports of suspicious online and cash transactions. In response to the unrest and allegations of corruption, the District Commandant has canceled the medical tests conducted on the first day, and the recruitment process will be restarted to ensure transparency.
